KARACHI:

The police department is fully conscious of its responsibilities towards the bereaved families of policemen killed in the crackdown against militant and criminal elements in the city, claimed Sindh IG Ghulam Hyder Jamali on Monday.

He was talking to policemen and the family of deceased constable Syed Hussain Shah following his funeral prayers at the police headquarters in Garden.

He asserted that efforts were constantly underway to streamline the on-going targeted operation in Karachi. “This is being complemented by improved intelligence-sharing in the areas worst hit by crime, as well as makeshift settlements and emerging colonies in the city’s suburbs, in order to eradicate the menace from its very roots,” he added.

Paying tribute to Shah, who was shot dead by unidentified men within the limits of the Boat Basin police station on Sunday night, Jamali said that the sacrifices made by policemen will not go in vain.

He further announced to induct two relatives of the slain constable in the police department and to continue paying his monthly salary to his widow until his retirement date.
