Bret Lee seems to have found his calling, another collaboration with Bollywood for the Aussie cricketer.

Shane Warne played a Shane Warne impersonator on Kath & Kim. Ian Botham once went to Hollywood hoping to play James Bond, and scores of Australian cricketers have acted in commercials, but Brett Lee takes the cake with a Bollywood flick.

The right-arm Australian fast bowler was first seen in the 2007 chart-topper You're the One for Me featuring Asha Bhosle, going to the extent of learning some Hindi in the process.

Bret Lee's switch from fast bowling to the lead role in a $4.5 million film titled UnIndian, is a pleasant surprise. The film is the first venture of recently established Australia India Film Fund (AIFF) and will start shooting in Sydney this week. This time, Bret woos Indian immigrant Meera his on-screen love.

The actress plays a successful career woman, a single mother with a child whose family want her to find "a nice Indian man". Instead, she meets Will, played by Lee, who may be nice but is certainly not Indian.

According to a tweet by Bollywood analyst Taran Adarsh, the former Australian right-arm fast bowler is putting his fast and flashy on-screen persona and mischievous good looks to effective use as he romances Meera, played by Tannishta Chatterjee.

At first glance, Lee's casting in UnIndian seems to be all about his marketability, especially in India where he has made many commercials and had a hit single with Asha Bhosle in 2007.

His previous acting experience extends to playing, yes, himself in the Bollywood film Victory alongside Allan Border, Mike Hussey and other famous cricketers.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, UnIndian director Anupam Sharma believes Lee is perfect casting not just because of his marketability but because he is playing a character close to himself; a likable, good-looking, down-to-earth Australian with an interest in India.
