ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday extended the stay on execution of two murder convicts for another two days as issue concerning jurisdiction of anti-terrorism courts (ATCs) is still being argued.

One of the counsels has challenged the jurisdiction of the Islamabad ATCs.

Rana Kashif Saleem Arfaa, the lawyer for double-murder convict Zulfiqar Ali Khan, said his client was sentenced to death by a Rawalpindi ATC, while his death warrants were issued by an Islamabad ATC.

On the direction of Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Aamer Farooq, the advocate general produced notifications about the setting up of ATCs and appointment of judges.

The bench directed the lawyers to formulate clear questions in order to bring clarity to the subject.

Zulfiqar Ali Khan and Khursheed Ahmed, were awarded death sentence and life imprisonment, respectively, in 1999 for killing  Muhammad Rafiq and Lehrasab.

The other convict, Raees Ahmed, has been on death row since 1999 for killing  Muhammad Saeed, Hassan Akhtar and Faras in 1997.
