A religious scholar in Nowshera and an intelligence agency official in Bannu were gunned down by unidentified assailants in two separate incidents Friday evening.


Maulana Amir Hamza, an administrator of Nowshera’s famous Taqwa Mosque and a senior member of the Tableeghi Jamaat, was shot close to his house.


“Maualana Amir Hamza was en route to his house after leading the Isha prayer in Taqwa Masjid when armed gunmen opened fire at him,” Nowshera Cantt police station SHO Haji Muhammad Khan informed The Express Tribune. He added the scholar died on the spot while the gunmen managed to flee.


Separately in Bannu, assailants shot dead an employee of an intelligence agency while he was en route to home from his duty.
