Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Thursday summoned the cabinet’s defense committee for a meeting tomorrow. The meeting has been summoned after the release of diplomatic cables by WikiLeaks.

The meeting will be headed by the prime minister and will be attended by Interior Minister Rehman Mailk , Foreign Minister Shah Mehmod Qureshi, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and other civil and military leaders.

According to military sources, the Pakistan Army has expressed concerns over the leaks, and wants the US to explain its position over the information made public by WikiLeaks.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made a phone call to President Asif Ali Zardari from Turkmenistan to discuss WikiLeaks revelations.

They agreed that WikiLeaks’ disclosures are illegal and Clinton assured the president that the US will continue its support for democracy in Pakistan.

The two leaders also discussed bilateral issues including the political impact of the publishing of the diplomatic cables by WikiLeaks.

I think COAS is worried more about what has not yet been released by Wikileaks. Given how both military and civilian leaders in Pak make backroom deals with US all the time with the objective of hoodwinking their peoples, both must be extremely worried about more to come. Now they can’t even negotiate privately. The only option left for both is to start working on their Action List to root out terrorism and tax avoidance as well as corruption otherwise they know all the weeds will come out tumbling sometime in the future.Recommend

the Pakistan Army has expressed concerns over the leaks, and wants the US to explain its position over the information made public by WikiLeaks. But the US government got in touch with Pakistan before the leaks to “assure” its allies. Now what? Another pointless excersize of holding a meeting to denounce “mischief”?Recommend

Summoning of Cabinet Defense Committee is only an Eye Wash. Lot has been leaked about State Pillars and Politicians which needs lot of review if we want our country to move forward with our raised heads. There must not be any compromise in derailing democracy in Pakistan. All must work in their constitutional framework. Let the politicians workout what is good for the country. 63 years are enough for all types of games, now please move forward for the sake of Mother Land.Recommend
