PESHAWAR:

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Excise and Taxation department has served property tax notices to owners of five-marla plots across the province.

Unlike its predecessors, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government in K-P has decided not to exempt owners of five-marla plots from property taxes.

As a result, the tax department decided to issue these notices.

However, Excise and Taxation Director General Javed Marwat told The Express Tribune the notices were served as per schedule. “The matter has been misreported in the media, creating problems for the public,” he said.

“Previous governments had exempted owners of five-marla plots from property taxes on the condition that the plots were occupied by owners themselves and the owner did not own any other plot or building.”

According to Marwat, notices have only been served to people who are either using their plots for commercial purposes or own other property as well.
