The Lahore High Court granted bail to a juvenile accused of blasphemy.
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court granted bail to a juvenile accused of blasphemy under the Juvenile Justice System against bail bonds worth Rs100,000.
Justice Sheikh Ahmed Farooq signed the release orders after the accused was produced in court along with his birth certificate to ascertain his age.
Neither the complainant nor his counsel was present to contest the bail. The boy had been accused by Asim, a TV reporter. Asim had lodged an FIR at the Factory Area police station under Sections 295-A, 295-B and 508 of Pakistan Penal Code.
In the FIR, the complainant accused the boy of burying volumes of Holy Quran.
Counsel for the accused submitted that the complainant, Asim, used to tease the boy’s sisters. According to the accused he had been accused by Asim after he had warned him not to tease his sisters.
The accused, appearing before the court, submitted that he had eight sisters and was the sole breadwinner of his family.
An additional district and sessions judge had earlier dismissed his bail application, following which he had moved the Lahore High Court. The accused had been in jail since August 5, 2010.
Asim told The Express Tribune that he would move the court for cancellation of the bail of the accused. Asim added that he had not been informed about the bail hearing by the court or the investigation officer (IO).
Asim denied that he used to tease the boy’s sisters.
When asked why he had not informed the complainant about the bail hearing, the IO, Abdul Sattar, said that the complainant appeared to have switched off his mobile phone whenever he[the IO] tried to call him.

Barking up the wrong tree…
Utterly ridiculous. This law is a sham and stain on both Islam and Pakistan and should be done away with. How can such a beautiful religion have been dragged so low?Recommend
This case again prove that how the blasphemy law can be misused even against children. Hats off to Lahore High Court for granting bail to the accused. The Court should also provide security to the child and order investigation into the false accusations.Recommend
Pathetic! What have the mullas done with Islam?Recommend
its not the Law which is Weak, but the moral values of our people which is weak. Why people don’t raise voices when accused persons released on Fake witnesses? Law is fine, but the judges needs to step up in making right decision.
And remember these Laws has not written by Mullah’s they only raise their voices for its Protection.Recommend
Law is Strong and clear, the only thing which is weak is the implementation of the law.Recommend
a great misuse of an unislamic law.Recommend
My suggestion to the Govt of Pakistan, it should make it mandatory that every TV channel and Radio station in Pakistan should announce every half an hour about the existence of Blasphemy laws in the country. Every body should be advised to stay away from having copy of Holy Quran or utter name of Holy Prophet (SAW) loudly. People should only whisper the name of Holy Prophet (SAW), this caution will keep lots of people out of trouble. Further Govt of Pakistan can set up a department where people can go, take an oath that they are never going to utter any Blasphemous word or take any action which is against Blasphemy law. Those who take an oath should be provided a certificate stating that they are Blasphemy proof, thus these people when accused can provide this certificate and save them selves. This action will generate lots of jobs for mullahs as only mullahs are worthy of administering such an oath.Recommend
Blasphemy is a victimless crime.Recommend
Blasphemy is a thought crime, and a throwback to pre-medieval times. In other words it belongs in the dark ages, along with Sharia “law”Recommend
This is NOT Islam being misrepresented. This is an example of the real thing. The negative reactions by muslims to this event is just their humanity showing through in spite of what Islam is all about,Recommend
@Mubarak : Lovely, it will additionaly create jobs for Mullahs as OATH COMMISIONERS. What about non-Muslims who want to be Blasphemy proof?Recommend
the person who made false case should be given exemplary punishment.Recommend
