BANNU:

Security forces on Friday claim to have shot dead a prisoner on death row who escaped from Central Prison Bannu in April 2012 when militants stormed the facility and released around 400 inmates.

According to a security official, they received intelligence information about Noor Zaman alias Manay living in a house in Domanza area of Bannu Township. The official added security personnel arrived at the house on Friday and surrounded it, but Zaman opened fire at them in a bid to escape. Zaman was killed in the ensuing shoot-out, while one security official was injured and shifted to the hospital.

Zaman was convicted in two murder cases and a terrorism case. He was then sentenced to death by a court and was incarcerated at the Bannu prison before he fled in 2012.

Meanwhile, security forces demolished houses of four suspected militants in Janikhel, Frontier Region Bannu during a search operation on Friday.
