GILGIT: At least 1,240 families affected by the floods in Chilas will be provided with winter food packages by the Pakistan Red Crescent society [PRCS], said a representative of the NGO on Sunday.

“The local administration of Chilas will assist the NGO in the distribution of packages,” he told The Express Tribune on Sunday. The NGO worker said that a camp would be setup in Chilas in this connection, allowing people of villages to get registered to receive a food package.

A government official said that in the first round of distribution, villagers of Buner, Gaise Bala and Giase Pain had been provided with the relief goods, while the rest of villages will be approached soon.

The PRCS representative said that the beneficiaries of Watan Card’s and all those others assisted by the World Food Programme wouldn’t be provided with the food packages this time around so that those deprived of assistance earlier can be helped.
