Young doctors: ‘The government has failed us’

LAHORE: The Young Doctors’ Association is set to resume its protest movement against the government from Monday. The association had suspended the campaign earlier in the wake of the Peshawar carnage. After presenting a charter of demands, the YDA announced that the first protest would be held at Mayo Hospital. On December 10, the YDA decided to stage 16 demonstrations as part of a campaign against the failure of the government to implement a 52-point agreement reached between the government and the YDA in November 2012. The demands include a raise in stipends of postgraduate trainees; implementation of service structure; induction of doctors in 18th grade and promotion of doctors in dental cadre. YDA spokesperson Khurram Shehzad said YDA wanted to compel the government to accept its demands. Protests will be held at Multan, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Gujrat, Rawalpindi, DG Khan, Rahim Yar Khan and Lahore.
