QUETTA: Paramilitary forces claim to have arrested three militants from the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in a raid in Harnai district of Balochistan on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, security forces raided a house in an area about five kilometres away from Harnai bazaar, according to an official of the paramilitary Frontier Corps (FC). The militants hiding inside opened fire on the security forces.

“Three TTP militants, including their commander, were arrested after a brief gunfight,” the official said. “No one was hurt in the raid and the ensuing firefight,” he added.

The arrested militants were shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation. A cache of weapons was also seized during the raid. “Based on information gleaned from the militants, more raids are expected,” another official said.

Balochistan Home Secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani confirmed the arrests.

Harnai is borders Sibi and Ziarat districts, where mostly Pashtoon tribes live.
