Foreign diplomats, UN representatives visit North Waziristan

Visiting dignitaries were briefed on the status of operation and the unprecedented successes achieved by Army

RAWALPINDI: A delegation of ambassadors from friendly countries and UN agencies representatives visited North Waziristan on Thursday.

According to a statement released by Inter Services Public Relations, the delegation was accompanied by Minister for SAFRON Lieutenant General(R) Abdul Qadir Baloch, Adviser to PM on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, and Corps Commander 11 Corps Lieutenant General Hidayatur Rehman.

The Operation Commander of Zarb-e-Azb briefed the visiting delegation on the status of operation and progress made by the army. During the visit the delegation was shown captured and destroyed terrorist hideouts, IED factories, tunnels, suicide bomber training centres and recovered arms and ammunition.

Lauding the efforts and resolve of the Pakistani nation and army in the fight against terrorism, the delegation paid tribute martyrs for their sacrifices to bring peace and stability in the region.

The delegation comprised of ambassadors from Afghanistan, Netherlands, Australia, Charge d' Affairs of Argentina, US and Germany, representative from UNDP, UNHCR, UN mission in Pakistan and WFP.

I suspect this is the first time Aziz has stepped foot in N Waziristan. For all the "sovereignty" arguments few Pakistani national leaders visit the place.
