District bars polls: Islamabad, Pindi district bars elect office-bearers

Asif Irfan and Tariq Awan were elected general secretaries of the two bars.

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Attock district bars associations on Saturday elected new office-bearers for the year 2015.

Zahid Mehmood Raja and GM Shah were elected Islamabad and Rawalpindi district bar associations’ presidents while Asif Irfan and Tariq Sajid Awan were elected general secretaries of the two bars respectively.

Raja polled 762 votes while his opponent Riasat Ali Azad received 640 votes. Asif Irfan got 1,060 votes against 319 polled by Mujibur Rehman.

Chaudhry Khalid Mehmood was elected vice-president and Hafiz Mazhar Mehmood joint secretary of Islamabad Bar.

Library secretary Farzana Faisal Khan, finance secretary Farah Naz Awan and executive members Irum Rashid and Tahira Saeed Bhutta were elected unopposed.

GM Shah of RDBA got 877 votes over his opponent Sardar Ashfaq Abbasi who polled 593 votes. Awan and Imran Shafiq polled 824 and 670 votes respectively. Tayaba Abbasi beat Sabir Hussain Shah for the seat of joint secretary with 1,026 votes against 371.

Attock

Syed Tahir Bukhari has been elected president of the Attock District Bar Association with 165 votes. His opponent Asrar Ahmad bagged 122 votes. General Secretary Faiz Iqbal retained her seat with 156 votes, against 132 polled by her opponent Ahmad Nawaz.

Candidates for vice-president Muhammad Ashfaq and Aftab Ahmad polled 195 and 91 votes respectively. Rabnawaz Khan became the joint secretary with 153 votes, against 120 votes polled by his opponent Zulfiqar Shah.

Secretary finance Saifullah Junaid, library secretary Ahmad Raza Khan and members executive committee Muhammad Bakhtiar Ahmad, Bilal Haider, Taimur Naseem, Riaz Qureshi, Abdullah Samiullah, Waseem Rafique, Suhail Siddiqui, Ahmad Afzaal, Khurram Riaz, and Muhammad Irfan Azeem were elected unopposed.

Taxila

Progressive Lawyers Forum won the Taxila Bar Association polls. Muhammad Afzal Janjua was elected president and Raja Muhammad Kamran general secretary. Tahira Anjum was elected vice-president, Sharjeel Aftab joint secretary, Rahat Haneef library secretary, and Quratul Ain was elected finance secretary.

Gujar Khan

Raja Babar Sultan was elected Gujar Khan Tehsil Bar Association president, and Raja Jawad Arsalan general secretary.

Rest of the body was elected unopposed, including vice-president Malik Tariq, finance secretary Raja Umar, joint secretary Adnan Shah, and library secretary Shahid Khan. Umar Asadullah, Saqib Baig, Malik Asif, and Farah Shah were elected members governing body.
