Penalty: Rs160.2m collected in fines in 2014

The city’s traffic police collected over Rs160.2 million in fines in 2014. Around 4,259 FIRs were registered against those who violated traffic rules across the district while 10,892 people were arrested for breaching said regulations. In total, 304,375 challans were issued throughout the year.


In December alone, fines worth Rs10.69 million were collected for traffic violations.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, DSP Traffic Headquarters Asghar Marwat said 6,998 people were fined for driving without a licence. Fines worth Rs4,198,800 have been collected from them over the past month.



Similarly, another 1,308 people were fined for driving vehicles without permits. Around Rs6,540,000 was collected in fines from them.

“We have a large contingent of policemen deployed in Hayatabad because several vehicles were caught there without valid permits,” said Marwat.

According to the DSP traffic, the number of challans registered from Cantt was comparatively lower. “This is because we have less deployment in the area,” he added.
