Targeted: Tribal elder shot dead in Jamrud

Two brothers killed in shoot-out in Lakki Marwat.

LAKKI MARWAT/ JAMRUD: A tribal elder was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Ghundai area of Jamrud, Khyber Agency on Thursday.

A political administration official said assailants armed with sophisticated weapons approached on a motorcycle and opened fire at Malik Badshah Sikanderkhel, who died on the spot while the gunmen fled from the scene.



Soon after the targeted attack, Swat Scouts, levies and khasadar personnel cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to catch the culprits. The officials said four suspects have been arrested so far. However, their names were not divulged till the filing of this report.

Armed forces are engaged in the Khyber-I operation to eliminate militants from the area. Yet, despite the military action, target killings and other acts of terrorism keep occurring.

Brothers killed

Two brothers were killed and their father was injured during a shoot-out in Naar Sultan Mehmood area of Lakki Marwat, said the police.

SHO Raza Khan said the assailants and the victims were living in camps for displaced people in Lakki Marwat. The families had a longstanding dispute over some property in North Waziristan.

The official added things came to a head on Thursday and both sides opened fire at each other in the jurisdiction of Sar-e-Norang police station. As a result, brothers Sadiq Khan and Tariq Khan died and their father Mameed Khan was injured.



The official added that an FIR has been registered against Gulab Khan and his accomplices. A search operation for the suspects is under way.
