KARACHI: PTA Acting Chairman Amir Majeed demanded a special electricity tariff for exporting industries in order to maintain Pakistan’s share in export markets. He said that export-oriented industries of the country were facing a hard time due to many factors, particularly expensive cost of manufacturing and bank financing. These factors have rendered exporters unable to maintain their market share in the global export market. The government’s measure to declare special tariff for export-oriented industries will provide a level playing field to exporting industries, especially the leather sector, he said. With an increasing amount of national debt, the government needed a strategy for repayment. He reiterated that the leather industry had potential to earn foreign exchange for the country.
