Fetching water: Displaced person drowns in canal

BANNU: Two displaced persons from North Waziristan slipped and fell into a canal while drawing water for their camp in Bannu on Sunday morning. One of the men drowned while the other was rescued by a constable on duty nearby. An official of Cantonment police, Jalil Khan, said one of the constables on duty at the time rushed to the spot at Kachkot Canal. The constable managed to rescue one of the two men who were fetching water for their tents in Shal Khel area of the district. The body of the other less fortunate IDP was recovered around 10 minutes later.  The police official said identities of both men are yet to be ascertained, adding the surviving man was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital in an unconscious state. Both men hail from Mirali tehsil of North Waziristan Agency.
