PESHAWAR: Accusing his cousin of trying to grab his land and issuing threats, a man appealed for police protection during a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Friday.

Muhammad Iqbal, a resident of Yakatoot, said the property in question was inherited by him from his father Gul Muhammad. He rejected the claim of his cousin Sarfraz’s adopted son Ayaz Awan, who claimed the property had been purchased from Gul Muhammad some 40 years ago.

Iqbal said the land measured around 20 kanals and was situated in Gul Bahar area, adding he had all the documents to prove the property was inherited by him.

He told the media some construction had also taken place on the land and added some of the court cases filed over the property had been decided in his favour.

However, Iqbal said his cousin was now issuing threats with the help of Ayaz’s father-in-law, Habibullah, who was the chief secretary’s private secretary. “Habibullah got an FIR lodged against me in different police stations on two occasions by misusing his power.”

Iqbal added when he went to have his complaint registered, the police stations wouldn’t touch it.

He demanded the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) chief minister and Peshawar High Court (PHC) chief justice take notice of the threats and order the relevant officials to provide justice.
