ABBOTABAD:

The counter-terrorism department (CTD) foiled a major terrorism bid and seized explosive material near Shimla Hill on Thursday. Two suspects were also arrested.

Police said they received an intelligence report about a bid to smuggle explosives, following which they beefed up security.

They subsequently intercepted a vehicle and recovered 50 kilogrammes of explosive powder, 300 detonators and two bundles of wire from it.

Khadim Hussain, son of Sadiq from Dobathar village, and Salim, son of Miskeen of Batangi village, were arrested.

During interrogation, the accused told the police they were transporting the explosives to Sherwan for mining purposes.

Sherwan has hundreds of mines where explosives and detonators are used for quarrying.

Police, however, speculated the explosives could be used for terrorist activities.
