A Frontier Corps (FC) spokesperson said the operation is being carried out against banned the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and the United Baloch Army (UBA).
Both organisations had claimed responsibilities of several bombings on security forces in and around Quetta.
“It is a large scale operation, and the FC is using helicopters. The FC’s special operation wing and Sibi Scouts are engaged in the operation which is still underway,” he said.
“There are several hideouts of militants in the mountainous areas of Bolan. These militants were involved in carrying out attacks on railway tracks, gas pipeline and kidnappings in the area,” the spokesperson added.
Militants were planning to target public transport on the national highway.
“An exchange of fire is still underway in the area. Militants are using automatic weapons, rocket launchers and hand grenades,” the spokesperson added.
The FC spokesperson said the targeted operation had started on the instructions of the Balochistan government.
“Peace will be maintained at any cost in Balochistan,” said Inspector General FC Balochistan Ejaz Shahid.
