Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: WAPDA complete comeback with 159-run win

Multan Tigers dismissed for just 89 in the final innings

KARACHI: Despite conceding a 106-run lead in the first innings to Multan Tigers, Wapda have come from behind to claim their Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (Gold) match by 159 runs.

Centuries by Iftikhar Ahmed and Adnan Raees helped Wapda reach 354-6 before declaring, setting Multan a 248-run target. However, Multan were bundled out for just 89 as Muhammad Ali Bhutta claimed 7-43.

UBL, meanwhile, claimed a comfortable 10-wicket win over Peshawar Panthers in a match that they dominated right from the get-go, bundling out Panthers for 98 in the first innings. They then made 340 in reply to claim a 242-run lead. Panthers’ 251 in the second innings meant that UBL needed only 10 to win in the fourth innings, a target they chased down in 3.4 overs.

At the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore Lions continued their struggle and lost to SNGPL by 5 wickets, who just needed 104 to win the match and finished the match with a six at the end.

NBP and Islamabad Leopards played out a draw that was affected by rain for the most parts. Leopards needed just 152 in the final innings but were only able to reach 122-6 before rain hit again. Only 565 runs were made in the entire match, for the loss of 36 wickets.

The other two matches – Karachi Dolphins v ZTBL and Port Qasim v Rawalpindi Rams —also ended in draws.

 

Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (Silver)

PIA defeated Lahore Eagles by five wickets, comfortably chasing down a meagre 108-run target on day four of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (Silver) at Lahore’s LCCA Ground thanks to a Kamran Sajid half-century.

KRL, meanwhile, cruised to a seven-wicket win against Karachi Zebras after gaining a 241-run first-innings lead. Zebras bounced back with 324 in the second innings, but it was not enough to keep KRL from winning.

State Bank  also registered a similarly comfortable eight-wicket win over Abbottabad Falcons, reaching the 185-run target in just 37.3 overs. Falcons will be particularly disappointed with their side’s batting effort as they were unable to cross 250 in either innings.

SSGC defeated Sialkot Stallions by 175 runs after giving the Sialkot side an almost unachievable 542-run target. Stallions were playing catch up after a batting collapse in the first innings saw them dismissed for just 81. SSGC then added 413-8 in their second innings before declaring. Despite a fighting 367, Stallions were unable to save the match.
