SHABQADAR: A trader en route to Peshawar was killed and another was injured by unidentified robbers on Friday morning.

Police official Abdul Rasheed Khan said fruit trader Naseeruddin was commuting in his pickup when robbers shot him dead upon resisting them. Another trader, Abdullah, was injured and rushed to a hospital.

Following the incident, local political leaders protested at Bacha Khan Chowk, placing the deceased’s body on the road and blocking traffic for an hour. Addressing protesters, Awami National Party-Wali leader Zakir Bacha said police had failed to protect people and cannot function under political pressure.

Demonstrators demanded the arrest of the culprits within 72 hours and dispersed peacefully after being assured by police officials.

Meanwhile, Mohmand and Bajaur agencies’ chapters of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) organised demonstrations against the suicide attack on JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Quetta on Thursday. Protesters condemned the attack and demanded the government to track its perpetrators down. This was the third unsuccessful attempt on the maulana’s life since 2011.
