Initiative: Punjab govt launches evening schools project

Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) has launched the evening schooling project in collaboration with private schools and non-government organizations (NGO).


The pilot project in the first phase has been launched in Rawalpindi, Lahore and Multan districts. Partnership agreements have been signed with 38 private schools and five NGOs who will arrange free education for about 10,000 children in the three districts.


The children will be educated up to primary level at the evening schools. The partner NGOs will open and operate 140 educational centres for evening classes.


PEF will provide textbooks and a monthly stipend of Rs450 per student. The pilot project will educate child labourers, dropouts and out of schoolchildren.
