Minister inaugurates third phase of laptop distribution scheme

“Students are the future leaders of the country. The government is taking all steps to promote education,” Federal State Minister for Water and Power Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali said on Thursday.


He said this at the inauguration of the third phase of the laptop distribution programme at the Government Islamia College for Women.

“Under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, we are taking revolutionary steps to encourage talented students,” he said.

“Cash prizes and laptops are being given to brilliant students for advancing education and research,” he said.

“Top students are being provided with the opportunity by the government of visiting foreign universities,” he said.

The minister congratulated the recipients of laptops, their parents and teachers and advised them to work hard to achieve success. “Students should use their talent, capabilities and knowledge for the development and progress of Pakistan,” he said.

Higher Education Department Secretary Abdullah Khan Sumbal said that the chief minister had allocated Rs4.4 billion for distribution of laptops among talented students.

“The entire procurement and distribution process has been transparent.

The laptops are being provided to the students purely on merit. The task of distributing 100,000 laptops among students will be completed by the end of the current year,” he said.

In his address, Faisalabad Colleges Director Rana Munawar Khan said that 7,582 students of the district would be provided laptops during the third phase.

He thanked Abid Sher Ali and other guests for participating in the function.

Earlier, a guard of honour was presented to the laptop recipients by a police contingent.

MPAs Mian Tahir Jamil, Haji Ilyas Ansari, Commissioner Capt (retd) Nasim Nawaz, DCO Noorul Amin Mengal, CPO Dr Sohail Habib Tajik and Board of Education chairman Ghulam Muhammad, too, attended the event.
