Pakistan's military said Tuesday it had voiced concern at continued Indian firing across the disputed frontier.
"A routine weekly hotline contact was established today between directors of military operations of Pakistan and Indian armies," a senior military official said in Islamabad on condition of anonymity.
"Pakistan army's director of military operations conveyed concern to Indian counterpart and pointed towards India's consistent unprovoked firing on civil population living along the Line of Control and the working boundary."
More than 12 people have been killed and 54 others injured in Indian firing along the LoC and Working Boundary over the past two weeks. Unprovoked Indian firing has triggered an exodus of people from the villages near the LoC and Working Boundary.
Clashes occur regularly along the Line of Control, as well as along the working boundary.
The latest shelling began over a week ago, and while its intensity has lessened since Friday Pakistani officials say firing has continued.
Pakistan said Friday that both countries shared a duty to defuse the situation, while India's foreign ministry maintained that "de-escalation is now entirely in Pakistan's hands".

Why is the hot line communication not anywhere in Indian media????
@ Reddy
Army could have started the operation way earlier but they gave dialogue a chance to stop or even reduce the activities militants were carrying out and meanwhile try to eradicate the foreign influence it was under. Secondly, majority of the sentimental people of Pakistan weren't ready to accept that TTP were a nuisance and thought of any use of force against the militants in North Western part of Pakistan to be against its own people even though bomb blasts were a common phenomena in Pakistan in those days. Honestly speaking, it was a huge mistake on part of Pakistan to delay the operation for such long and let militants the environment to grow and strengthen their ranks.
@Ahmed my friend, I truly appreciate your effort. But European countries didn't make nuclear bombs just to threaten their neighbours. Will Pakistan be mature enough to stop blackmail India with nuclear bomb?
@Aisha for your kind information it was the great Leader of Pakistan Mr. Z.A.Bhutto himself who said Pakistani people eat grass to fund N-Bomb. Why blaming others?
@Ahmed: You mean well but are trying to establish false equivalence here.India has never attacked Pakistan and never will. It will protect its people and sovereignty. If Pakistan does ot fire, India has far more on its plate.even though there has been a border dispute with China, there has been no sot exchanged for 50 years nor has Ondia had any issue with any of its other neighbors. The day Pakistani civilians can rein in their out of control military, peace will reign.
India has 180 million disunited, discriminated, disempowered Muslims. Now their killer has become PM. His first words after winning the election werr India has won. What he means is that Hindu fanaticism that he represents is the real India. Indian democracy is all about protecting the majority. Everyone must now adopt hindutva.
Pakistan is a minor irritant for India in the way of getting to its real objectives. For Pakistan, irritating India is the one and only objective.
Its a new normal. Get used to it.
Okay, Pakistan has sued for peace, even out of weakness but still this shows Pakistan's maturity as upping the ante could have led to disastrous consequences for both Pakistan and India. But don't think that Pakistan would always appease. Do not provoke or Pakistan might be just ready to answer effectively, next time. Take it easy.
@Sukhbir S Khattak: One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter! We don't give up on our freedom fighters!!!
Enough fighting for 67 years .. We should learn atleast something from Europe , in the 2nd world war they destroyed each other and now they formed EU for their people's prosperity . why can't we follow them . plz no to hate and yes to peace :)
Indians don't want to talk because they know, they are wrong.
Well TTP is left out of Taliban in pakistan and will soon be root out as Army is doing operation for this
Secondly Dear Indians if you are taunting us for instability in Pakistan check your home as well where more than half dozen freedom movements going on now please don't say Its i read in fairy tale its on wikipedia ( operated from West ) your army cant enter in those territories ..which cover almost 40% of your land .. when you will keep blaming us then mind it you guys have enough trash but under rugs ..but till when
@mohammed: The remaining half is strong and capable enough to take care of them instead of running around to all and sundry for money.
@Aisha: USA had a role in creating Afhan Mujahidin. No role in creating TTP.
@Prometheus: He has not claimed to be a Pakistani. Sukhbir could be a Sikh. Even if the Khattak name makes you think he is Muslim, India has 180 Muslims. Grow up.
@Wajahat: if TTP is created by India, one wonders why Imran Khan and Ch. Nissar were so angry when Hakeemullah Mehsud was droned. Certainly no Indian politician complained. You may also want to explain why so many all party resolutions demanding talks with TTP were passed by parties in Pakistan. Why the JI Pakistan chief called Hakeemullah Mehsud a martyr. Why Pakistan government had signed an accord with Fazlullah in Feb 2009.
@ Indian thank God you said USA and Pakistan created Taliban against USSR .. so why you guys always called pakistan creator of terrorist include your best frd USA as well dear indians . as you know Pakistan is poor country who does not have to eat even and they are living on grass so how can they finance such monster ( terrorist ) Must be some strong financial support there find out as You guys are Super Power in next decade ( dont take last 6 words seriously )
@Wajahat: "With Indian supported terrorist getting a thrashing on western border of Pakistan"
that's really odd,are you inferring your government desperately seeking talks with an indian sponsored terrorists until recently...at least maintain some kind of coherence in the argument.
@Prometheus: did you find a single word he mentioned that he is pakistani? by the way you need more exposure. i guess you are confused by his last name "khattak" right?
@mohammed: Keep your house in order first than worry about your neighbours
@Wajahat: The whole world knows CIA and Pakistan created Taliban to counter USSR. Now they have turned against their own masters and both USA and Pakistan are unable to control it. what a pity
@Wajahat: The whole world knows CIA and Pakistan created Taliban to counter USSR. Now they have turned against their own masters and both USA and Pakistan are unable to control it. what a pity
@Prometheus: are you that naive? Seems like you forgot there are equal number of Muslims this side of the border. Irrespective of nationality of the guy. Sukhbir and khattak is common name here. Tomorrow you will say names resembling indian singer Sukhbir Singh and Aamir Khan commenting on this site are too pretending to be Pakistanis. Get a life.
Do the need a hot line? They can should at each other across their borders. This is unusual not having a No Mans land between them. Both militaries must have already fixed a date for the next round and the final day as well. Nuclear powers? One gets the impression that they do not even have klashnikovs.
Rex Minor
@Suryawardhan: lOl . Your constant interest on pak newspaper pages and comments indicate something.. .. leave us alone my indian friend. . btw nice conspiracy theory yet again .. two thumbs up (y) kudos
@Prometheus: I would have thought that Sukhbir is a Punjabi name, most likely Sikh. If so, how does that automatically connote him as a Pakistani?
@Sukhbir S Khattak If you are going to use a fake name to disguise yourself as pakistani, atleast do it right Better yet get a life and stop trolling ET
With Indian supported terrorist getting a thrashing on western border of Pakistan, India is trying to open new fronts for Pakistan Army to engage itself in.
@Usama: You know that India did not call right? They have clear instructions to seek no communication or flag meeting.
@ Usama, if you really wish to be enlightened on what a political stunt is, then do read on.
With Imran Khan and cleric Qadri breathing down the neck of Nawaz Sharif govt., which has failed on most front since taking oath 18 months back, it was only imperative that the political brass of Pakistan, in close coordination with the ever-powerful military establishment planned a flare-up on the Indian border to distract the local populace and media alike from the internal crisis it was facing. And knowing the kind of emotions Kashmir evokes in the religiously charged atmosphere in Pakistan, it was only a matter of time that such a mischief would take place from the Pakistani side sooner than later.
Its a vicious circle actually, where the general public in Pakistan is made to swing between the hope that the dharna-loving protesters generate on the streets and the emotionally charged anti-India sentiment the government keeps invoking by such unnecessary tactics on Indian border. But there is still hope as the general trend of civilization is always upwards and that with time, the Pakistani public will realize how it plays into the hands of the weak Federal govt. time and again. For a pointer, while the chest thumping by your politicians and military on giving a 'befitting' reply to India is seen, its the same group that runs to the UN for an intervention when they face the heat by a more assertive and commanding Indian army. To the eyes of the world, such contradictions in the perception and reality is thus, mesmerizing.
In other news UN snubs Pak http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-others/united-nations-ignores-pakistan-bid-to-seek-intervention-on-kashmir-dispute/
Stop pretending to be some super power, you have half a billion who don't have enough to eat.@Sukhbir S Khattak:
Now this is the only way left as UN line is cut off for ever.
after UN rejects pakistan plea and refuses to intervene in kashmir issue pakistan with no other way left proposed DGMO level talks with Tims of India saying India won’t make first move to lower tension along Pakistani border as was said by India MEA that it was up to Pakistan if it wanted to increase or decrease the tension and an appropriate reply would be given to the efforts made by Pakistan in this regard.Clearly no other left for pakistan as India toughens stand.
It is just a political stunt by Indian politician as usual.. Nothing new..
Given the ambiguous wording, no guesses required on who called whom.
