ISLAMABAD:

Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Pervaiz Rashid on Thursday underscored the need for enhancing bilateral trade and investment with Germany.

Addressing the 24th anniversary of the reunification of Federal Republic of Germany, he said there was a need to explore possibilities of increased German investment in various economic sectors, especially renewable energy, information technology and the automotive industry.

Pakistan could also increase collaboration with Germany in vocational training, culture, higher education and water management, he added.

He called for strengthening bilateral contacts and parliamentary exchanges since such high level contacts were important for establishing areas of mutual interests.

“Pakistan is interested in increasing collaboration in the field of defence and means of countering terrorism,” he said. “The second round of bilateral consultations between the two countries has been very fruitful.”

Speaking on the occasion, German ambassador to Pakistan, Dr Cyrill Nunn, assured that his country would continue to cooperate with Pakistan in various fields including energy and trade.

Referring to strong relations between the two countries, the envoy said Germany would extend its full support for a strong democratic system in Pakistan. He appreciated Pakistan’s contribution to the recently concluded Fifa World Cup held in Brazil by providing quality footballs.

The German ambassador said his country was also providing assistance to Pakistan through training in various fields including sports. Referring to cooperation in the education sector, he said a large number of Pakistani students were studying at various German universities, through financial aid and on self-help basis.
