Students boycott transfer of HODs

Our Correspondent September 23, 2014

ABBOTTABAD: For the seventh consecutive day on Tuesday, students of the Havelian campus of the Hazara University continued to boycott classes against the transfer of various department heads and warned they would block the Karakoram Highway for an indefinite period from Wednesday morning. Following the transfers of the heads of departments of management sciences, economics, Pakistan studies and mathematics by vice chancellor (VC) Dr Sohail Shehzad, the students opposed the decision and have been boycotting their classes. The students alleged that the VC replaced senior teachers on the basis of discrimination with junior ones and the decision was unjustified. On Tuesday, the protesting students blocked Karakoram Highway, suspending traffic for over 30 minutes. Speakers accused the VC for replacing senior teachers, who have been heading their departments for the last six years, with his “own blue-eyed boys”.
