KARACHI:

We hadn’t anticipated that Mathira Mohammad, whose claim to fame was a late night show titled Love Indicator, would be reluctant to ‘indicate’ details of her own love life. She is not shy; just reserved, probably because she has faced ample criticism for being outspoken and ‘inadequately’ dressed at many occasions. Now that she has started a family with her husband, Farran J Mirza (DJ Flint J), she seems to tread carefully to avoid unneeded attention.

On September 3 this year, Mathira and Farran welcomed a baby boy, who they have named Aahil, which means prince. Now that the ‘prince’ has arrived, he has everyone’s attention in the house. “I love children. My little prince is a blessing for me and our families are enjoying every bit of this joy. Everyone is in love with him,” Mathira tells The Express Tribune.

Faith in God has been the driving force behind Mathira, which is why she considers her marriage with Farran nothing less than a product of divine intervention. “I believe God plans everything for a reason and He is the one who chooses your soulmate for you,” she feels.

Mathira took both her fans and members of the entertainment industry by surprise with the news of her marriage last year. “It shouldn’t be surprising that I got married, as sooner or later, I was going to tie the knot,” she comments.

The diva, known for her quirky catchphrases, falls short of words when it comes to describing her “only man” Farran, who she started seeing three years before they got married. “All I can say is that he is a gem of a man,” she says. “He always manages to make me smile, understands me and my silence. I’m blessed to have such a caring and loving husband.”

Farran met Mathira on his first-ever trip to Karachi at a casual get-together where she was also invited as a guest. “I thought she would have the typical ‘star’ attitude, so I kept my [initial] conversation with her light and basic,” he recalls. But as the evening progressed, he realised that she is a down-to-earth person. And the rest is history.

“Mathira is an understanding and dedicated wife, but no relationship in this world is perfect. We have our own share of small arguments at times, but what matters is that we are always there for each other at the end of the day,” shares Farran. Mathira doesn’t believe in the concept of a ‘Mr Right’. But what makes her happy about Farran is that he has left many (unnamed) “bad habits” for her and their relationship, which makes him no less than the right man for her.

Mr and Mrs Farran may have fallen in love at their first meeting, but they both ensured that they received their families’ consent before tying the knot. Mathira states, “My parents believe that it is the boy and the girl who have to live together, so why not let them decide who they wish to spend their life with.”

Mathira and Farran seem to be each other’s lucky charm as both of them have projects lined up in their respective careers, which they had put on halt with the baby’s arrival, and plan to resume soon. With a sense of pride, he says he is certain that Mathira’s fans will be disappointed that she is ‘taken’. “She is an ideal partner and a girl who anyone would want to be with,” he says. “I know a lot of men would hate me right now, especially in Pakistan, because I am with someone that most of them were wishing to be with.”
