KARACHI:

Bioinformatics has led to explosive growth in biological information, using sophisticated computer technology and techniques to carry out rapid genome sequencing, said guest speaker Dr Reaz Uddin, assistant professor at Karachi University's Dr Panjwani Centre for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research, at the inaugural lecture of a series at Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) on Friday.

The lecture series, titled 'Bioinformatics: An Emerging Science and its Future', was organised by SSUET's bioinformatics department to raise awareness about the scope and importance of the field. Bioinformatics, the application of computer technology to the management of biological information, combines computer science, molecular biology, statistics, mathematics and engineering to study and process biological data.
