Six reasons why you’re always tired

Contrary to popular belief, bad sleeping habits aren’t the only thing sapping your energy

Ever wondered why you feel tired despite getting a good night’s sleep? Contrary to popular belief, bad sleeping habits aren’t the only thing sapping your energy. How you are and the things you do on a daily basis can cause both physical and mental exhaustion, making it difficult for you to get past the day. As compiled from health.com, these easy lifestyle tweaks can energise you by (s)leaps and bounds.

You’re not consuming enough iron:

Iron deficiency can leave you feeling lethargic, irritable, weak and unable to focus. Boost your iron intake by incorporating beef, eggs (including the yolk), dark green leafy vegetables and nuts into your diet.

You don’t drink enough water:

Being even slightly dehydrated can take a toll on your energy level. To calculate how much your fluid intake should be, take your weight in pounds, divide it in half and drink that many  number of ounces of water per day.

You’re a perfectionist:

Striving to be perfect? Perfecting your work makes it much harder to complete and costs time. Stop setting unrealistic goals and set a time limit for your projects. This will also enhance productivity.

You have trouble saying ‘no’:

Pleasing everyone around you comes at the expense of your energy and joy. It can also make you more resentful over time. Train yourself to say ‘no’ if need be and avoid the unnecessary exhaustion.

You have a messy office:

A cluttered desk can wear you out mentally by restricting your capacity to focus. At the end of each day, make sure your work and personal items are organised and put away efficiently. This will ensure a constructive next morning.

You rely on caffeine:

A java jolt in the morning is okay, but anything more than three cups of coffee or black tea in a day can disrupt your sleep-wake cycle. Avoid caffeine six hours before bedtime as that will conserve your energy for the next day.
