KARACHI:

Teachers at the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) have been directed to abstain from interrupting academic activities and running of the varsity through strikes.

A division bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC), headed by Justice Munib Akhtar, passed the direction on a lawsuit instituted by the varsity through its registrar against the teachers.

On Thursday, the university management approached the court, naming many teachers as defendants.

The plaintiff said that since the inquiry about the vice-chancellor early last year, the varsity management started scrutiny of different pending matters relating to misappropriation and embezzlement of the funds and to maintain discipline so that the teachers could perform their teaching responsibilities.

He alleged that the defendants, including the Teachers Welfare Association, the Anjuman Asateza, the Asateza Joint Action Committee, the teachers and other staffers involved in such illegal and irresponsible activities have started a campaign against the vice-chancellor and the varsity management on false and frivolous grounds.
