MINGORA:

An anti-terrorism court in Mingora sentenced a man to jail for two years for his involvement in a bomb attack on the vehicle of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) politician and adviser to the PM Amir Muqam in Shangla. The judge also imposed a fine of Rs5,000.

Maulana Fazlullah, Shahidullah Shahid and Dost Mohammad, were declared absconders in the same case, while three others, Roshan, Akhtar and Noorul Bashar, were released over lack of evidence.

The incident took place in the Martung, Shangla District on January 12, 2014. The assailants targeted the adviser to the prime minister and six policemen were killed in the attack, while the PML-N leader narrowly escaped.

The prosecution told the court the suspect, Naeemul Haq, confessed of his involvement in the blast in a phone call to the police. The judge, Mohammad Asif Khan of ATC-2, convicted the accused under 9ATA after charges against him were established.
