Security forces official gunned down

PESHAWAR: An official of the security forces was gunned down by unidentified armed men in Akhunabad on Tuesday morning.

According to Phandu police station SHO Sajjad, 40-year-old Subedar Niaz Amin had come to a bus stop to drop off his children for the school van.

However, as soon as the van departed, armed men opened fire at Niaz Amin, killing him on the spot.

The SHO said Niaz Amin’s brother Muhammad Amin later filed an FIR against unidentified culprits.

According to the counter terrorism department (CTD), the deceased was posted in Gujranwala, Punjab and was on a month-long leave. He had 10 days left before he had to report back to duty.

A CTD official, requesting anonymity, told The Express Tribune it was too early to call the attack a target killing. The FIR states the family had no known enemies, he said.

The official, however, added three shell casings were found from the crime scene and further investigation is under way.

Target killer held

Meanwhile, Peshawar police has arrested an alleged target killer who was wanted in 19 different cases.

City SP Dr Mustafa Tanveer told the media on Tuesday that Naseer, alias Karhichy, a resident of Hazar Khwani, was arrested during a raid by the Yakatoot police.

He added a pistol was also seized from Naseer.

According to Tanveer, Naseer, 24, had been wanted for several crimes and has served time in the past. However, when he was released he became a hired assassin, said Tanveer.
