Preventive measures: Relief camps set up in Bahawalpur

Baloch said chief minister had constituted district and regional committees to monitor relief efforts in the province

BAHAWALPUR: Bahawalpur DCO Imran Sikandar Baloch on Friday said Bahawalpur had been divided into six sectors and 19 relief camps had been established.

He said floood control centres had also been set up.

He was addressing a meeting on flood arrangements. Bahawalpur commissioner was also present.

Baloch said the chief minister had constituted district and regional committees to monitor relief efforts in the province.  “We cannot afford to be negligent,” he said. “We cannot afford to be careless with human life.”

Bahawalpur Commissioner Javed Akbar told the meeting duties for flood monitoring and relief operations had been assigned. He said areas where floods were expected were being monitored. He said the government would evacuate villages and rescue operations would be launched. He said the government had arranged for boats. He said the Health Department would start a vaccination campaign in areas near the river. He said holidays of all administration workers had been cancelled because all hands were needed on the deck.
