MULTAN:

Demand for Pakistani handmade brass and wooden products has increased in the international market. Exporting these products would not only help the economy but also improve the lifestyle of our hardworking artisans, earning valuable foreign exchange as well.

This was stated by Handicrafts Association of Pakistan (HAP) Executive Member and director at ‘Aik Hunar Aik Nagar’ (AHAN) Naheed Masud.

“We are working not only for the promotion of Pakistani handmade novelty items but also focusing on the training of craftsmen to bring enhancement in finishing and colour schemes of products,” said Masud.

“HAP has defined clusters of craft-specific areas to ensure better returns to craftsmen and their direct access to international market. The initiative of Bahawalpur embroidery cluster is paying dividends now,” Naheed added.

She said HAP members would attend exhibitions in India to introduce products made of brass, marble and wood, along with glass work, cut work, embroidery and apparel.

AHAN is also conducting seminars regularly for awareness and training of craftsmen to improve their dexterity so that their products go in accordance with international markets’ demands.
