Reckless driving: Four killed, 13 injured in road mishaps

Many injured passengers said to be in critical condition.

NOWSHERA/HARIPUR: Two people were killed while ten others were injured when a passenger van collided with a truck on Mall Road, Nowshera on Wednesday afternoon.

An official of Nowshera Cantonment police said Mall Road was rendered one-way due to ongoing construction work on the thoroughfare. He added a passenger van headed to Peshawar from Mansehra rammed into a mini-truck.

He said the wives of Muhammad Yasin and Abdul Qayum died on the spot as a result while ten others, including children, were injured. The police official said the names of all the injured could not be ascertained as most were unconscious till the time this report was filed.

The police official said that injured, including drivers of both vehicles, were rushed to Combined Military Hospital, Nowshera and District Headquarters Hospital. The official added four among the injured are in critical condition. He said they had lodged an FIR of the incident.

Meanwhile, two people were killed while three others were injured when a speeding vehicle rammed into a motorcycle near Kangra in Haripur district, said the police on Tuesday. Shakir, a resident of Mohallah Malikpura, Abbottabad, had taken his four nephews to Haripur on his motorcycle to visit their relatives, said the police.

“On the way back home, when they reached near Kangra causeway, a car rammed into the bike,” said a police official. One of them died on the spot while the four others were seriously injured.

They were shifted to Women and Children Hospital where one of the injured boys succumbed to head injuries. The deceased were identified as Mohiz, 13 and Abdullah, 10. Their maternal uncle Shakir, 32, and their cousins Saram, 8, and Hadi, 9, are in critical condition.
