Tragedy: Four dead, nine injured in road accidents

Vehicles skidded into roadside ravines in two incidents, highlighting need for safety measures.

At least four people died in three separate road accidents in Hazara division and Chitral on Monday.


According to eyewitnesses, three teenage boys were on their way to the market in Jalalabad village, Mansehra when their motorcycle collided with a loaded truck. Iftikhar, 15, and Raees, 13, died on the spot. Nine-year-old Izrar was taken to Ayub Medical Complex in Abbottabad in critical condition.

A third person died in an accident in Havelian when a jeep skidded into a roadside ravine. Javed, son of Asif, died instantly and four others were injured.

In Chitral, a similar accident in Bozond killed one and injured four. A Chitral police official said a jeep en route from Khot to Wasach plunged into a ravine after the driver, Ali Ahmad, lost control of the vehicle.

The official said the vehicle was overloaded with timber and passengers when the accident occurred. Ahmad, Irfan, Sarwar, Muhammad Ishaq and Muhammad Aziz sustained injuries. Of the five men, one died on the way to hospital but his identity could not be ascertained at the time this report was filed.

A case was filed against Ahmad and further investigation is underway.
