Dr Saleem Tariq new Islamic University VC

Higher Education Department issues notification on governor’s advice.

Prof Dr Saleem Tariq Khan has been appointed the acting vice chancellor of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB). Dr Khan, the Faculty of Islamic Learning dean, assumed charge of the post today (Monday) after the Higher Education Commission issued a notification on the recommendations of the Punjab governor. The post became vacant on the retirement of Prof Dr Muhammad Mukhtar.


Dr Khan started his teaching career as lecturer in the university’s Arabic department in 1979. He was promoted to the rank of assistant professor in 1986, associate professor in 1998 and professor in 2001.

He completed his master’s degree in Arabic with 84 per cent marks from the Punjab University, Lahore in 1977 and later completed his PhD in 1986 from the same university.

He has been the in charge of the IUB Research and Publications section since 1997. He has also served as chairman of the convocation committee. Fifty-seven students have completed their MPhil and PhD degrees under his supervision.

He has organised eight conferences on Holy Quran and the life of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) at the IUB.
