Pakistan congratulates Afghanistan for successfully completing second round of elections

Second round of polls ended in Afghanistan on June 14 with a significant turnout, despite a number of attacks.

Pakistan has congratulated Afghanistan for successfully holding the second round of elections.

A short statement from Ministry of Foreign affairs congratulated people of Afghanistan for holding successful elections through the official twitter account of the ministry's spokesperson.



In the statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, it said that the Afghan electoral institution bears the crucial responsibility of the completion of next steps in the electoral process.

“The Afghan people, once again, demonstrated a firm resolve to determine their future through democratic means.”

“We extend our best wishes to the Afghan people as they continue to move forward in this historic journey and take determined steps for peaceful democratic transition and greater stability in Afghanistan.”

Polls in Afghanistan's second round of presidential elections closed on June 14 with officials hailing Afghan security forces for lesser number of casualties in around 150 attacks by the militants.

In the second round of election, voters chose between former Foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah and World Bank economist Ashraf Ghani.

Both the candidates have pledged to pursue peaceful relations with pakistan.

IEC officials have announced that the final results will be available after five weeks, July 22.

According to local political administration officials, Pakistan had tightened security in the area of the tribal belt close to Afghan border due to fear of a major attack militant attack amid election.
