QUETTA: A hawaldar of the Levies Force was gunned down by unidentified assailants near Mastung town, about 45 kilometres off the provincial capital, on Tuesday evening.

According to sources, Dad Mohammad, a hawaldar in Balochistan Levies, was returning home from the Levies Thana, Mastung Road, when unidentified men on a motorcycle opened fire on him, killing him instantly near his residence.

The assailants managed to escape from the scene. The deceased was taken to a nearby state-run hospital for an autopsy. The motive behind the murder could not be ascertained immediately.

However, a case has been registered against unidentified men and investigation launched. Meanwhile, an official vehicle of the Frontier Corps escaped a remote controlled blast in Panjgur district, approximately 530-kilometres from the provincial capital, the same day.

Reports say the FC vehicle managed to escape the blast without any loss being reported. The Lashkar-e-Balochistan has claimed responsibility.
