Scotland Yard claimed that the two suspects, identified as Mohsin Ali Syed and Mohammed Kashif Khan Kamran, are believed to be in Pakistan and had traveled to London on student visas. They are also believed to be residents of Karachi.
"We are appealing to anyone who has not yet come forward but knew either man in Pakistan or during their time in the UK to contact the investigation team. In particular, officers are keen to piece together the men's movements in the days immediately prior to the murder and their travel out of the UK on 16 September 2010," said the statement released by the Scotland Yard.
In January, United Kingdom (UK) prosecutors had asked Pakistan to trace the two suspects.
Farooq, 50, was a former leader of MQM and had lived in London in self-imposed exile from 1999. He was on his way back from work when he was attacked outside his home in Edgware, north London, in September 2010. A post-mortem gave the cause of death as multiple stab wounds and blunt trauma to the head. A kitchen knife and a house brick used in the attack were recovered at the scene.
"Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command (SO15) who are investigating his murder are committed to finding those responsible," the statement added.

@True Karachiwala: Sir,though you did not address me but I would like to share what I think is the reason behind nothing substantial getting done in this case."Bhai" is too useful for the British with the way things are in Karachi."Bhai' has an organized network of ground intelligence and is a force to reckon with,in terms of the Political and Turf wars in Karachi. So frankly I don't think they will ever go after him,at least not in the next 5-10 years, they would wait till he becomes useless for them and then they would take care of him or at least shut him up.And you correctly pointed out that their success rate is 99%.In one instance, they nabbed a murderer 15 years after the crime was committed,so there are no time frames,Sir. Btw,now why is Mustafa Kamal running for his life these days,Sir?

Scotland Yard has cracked the case on their side. They are 100% sure. Their success rate is 99%. UK Government's, British Legal system's and above all Scotland Yard's reputation is at stake. Then: why Scotland Yard is not asking Interpol to issue red warrant for these guys, so that Pakistan government forced under international treaty locate, arrest, and handover the suspects to them? The tone and clarity of words in Sunday's MQM rally is enough to proof that UK and Pak government are at a loss on this case.Ok, you do not have these suspects. Let's start prosecution under various other charges we are listening for such a long time. Scotland Yard is doing nothing except repeating its commitment and reward money. The ball is now in UK and Pak governments court. For Pak it's a political issue which is not going in their desired direction, for UK it's a case in which they first suspected "big one" but now what they have at hand a clean chit for that "big one".
this explains the need for the "historical" "revolutionary" rallies
Nothing could be done on this case in Pakistan or the mafia would either burn the city down or shut it down for a year or two
@Parvez: Rehman Malik and Altaf are buddies.
Mr.Zulfiquar Mirza and Mr. Rehman Malik.........kindly speak up.
It appears that the NS Government is scared of bring the criminals to justice since Karachi might be shut down in reprisal. What a pity, justice is being held hostage to politics.
A Firangi ploy to net our brand-new "Father of the Nation"
In January, United Kingdom (UK) prosecutors had asked Pakistan to trace the two suspects. . Were almost in June - why haven't these guys been located and detained?
Case is closed, Deep state will make sure these two are dead by now, if not already.
@Shazia Bangash: The only decent comment with some logical reasoning.
@uzma: Its not scotland police. Google scorland yard first.
if the 2 murders are in custody of Pakistani authorities, why they are not being handed? or some hidden hand behind the killing?
This act ruined the career of so many students who want to go to UK for education.
So days are counted.
Put Altaf on ECL (UK) until case solved, otherwise Altaf can't get justice here. lol
Through Altaf Hussain, the UK government can shut down Karachi whenever they like and can also ensure that ports stay open for traffic to Afghanistan. This gives them enormous leverage in regional geo-politics vis a vis the Americans. Scotland Yard may have conducted its investigation independently but will the UK Foreign Office pressurzse the Pakistan government to release the 2 men who (it has been reported since the beginning of this affair) are in Pakistani custody? Also, the next biggest party in Karachi is the PTI and they cannot be relied upon from a UK government's perspective, as the compromised Altaf Hussain can be. Perhaps, the solution is to issue Altaf Hussain a passport and then plead helplessness as he is protected by MQM sector commanders in Azizabad.
So, the reasons are quite obvious for joining Sindh Govt. & protest. Unfortunately for Mr. Altaf, That's not Pakistan Police to bow out against pressure.
Pakistan should act as per the laws of land of pure...i have a question the S.Yard has asked Pakistani authorities to track the suspects which they must have done by the time i am writing this and may be handover them to S.yard...Britain should also do the same favor to Pakistan by handing over the killers/extortionist and many other living in UK as their citizens now and living a free life.
What we need to understand, that everything is changing. Things change. MQM is losing power exponentially and will slowly fizzle out. Its a reality and one that we need to understand. Other political actors are now managing that reality to their benefit. MQM is over. What comes next?
Thats a jewish hatched, english cooked and american monitored, conspiracy against a certain "bhail".Bhai missed last year's Nobel Peace prize by an inch!
It was an open secret who they are, their faces are being shown for the first time but the real cards are in the hands of Pakistan. Scotland Yard has done their job in cracking the case now it's our turn to muddle it for MQM. Will we?
So Najam Sethi ki churya was not lying after all....
Now I know why there was a rally for the "father of the nation" last week. It was to show the British their power base and threat them indirectly.
That this was about to unfold is the main reason behind their current passport issue. The day of reckoning is approaching.
In this case you are saying "allegedly" but if it would have been a Shia or Qadiyani target killing, you would be 100% sure who have done it even before any investigation...this is the hypocrisy and sadly persists more in our English media...
Its high time that Pakistani agencies should hand these suspects to British authorities so that investigation into Dr Imran Farooq reaches a logical conclusion and Karachi could be liberated from clutches of Mafia being controlled from British capital London.
Pakistan should cooperate with Scotland and these must hand over to Scotland Police,
Now you know the 2nd.reason of MQM joining Sind Govt.
The English should be careful about who they give visas to. Will they never learn?
Good decision by Scotland Yard to name the suspects. Now the ball is in Pakistan Government's court to identify/deny/cooperate with the investigation.
