LONDON: Scotland Yard released pictures of two suspects allegedly involved in the murder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Imran Farooq, Express News reported on Tuesday.

Scotland Yard claimed that the two suspects, identified as Mohsin Ali Syed and Mohammed Kashif Khan Kamran, are believed to be in Pakistan and had traveled to London on student visas. They are also believed to be residents of Karachi.

"We are appealing to anyone who has not yet come forward but knew either man in Pakistan or during their time in the UK to contact the investigation team. In particular, officers are keen to piece together the men's movements in the days immediately prior to the murder and their travel out of the UK on 16 September 2010," said the statement released by the Scotland Yard.

In January, United Kingdom (UK) prosecutors had asked Pakistan to trace the two suspects.

Farooq, 50, was a former leader of MQM and had lived in London in self-imposed exile from 1999. He was on his way back from work when he was attacked outside his home in Edgware, north London, in September 2010. A post-mortem gave the cause of death as multiple stab wounds and blunt trauma to the head. A kitchen knife and a house brick used in the attack were recovered at the scene.

"Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command (SO15) who are investigating his murder are committed to finding those responsible," the statement added.

@True Karachiwala: Sir,though you did not address me but I would like to share what I think is the reason behind nothing substantial getting done in this case."Bhai" is too useful for the British with the way things are in Karachi."Bhai' has an organized network of ground intelligence and is a force to reckon with,in terms of the Political and Turf wars in Karachi. So frankly I don't think they will ever go after him,at least not in the next 5-10 years, they would wait till he becomes useless for them and then they would take care of him or at least shut him up.And you correctly pointed out that their success rate is 99%.In one instance, they nabbed a murderer 15 years after the crime was committed,so there are no time frames,Sir. Btw,now why is Mustafa Kamal running for his life these days,Sir?

Scotland Yard has cracked the case on their side. They are 100% sure. Their success rate is 99%. UK Government's, British Legal system's and above all Scotland Yard's reputation is at stake. Then: why Scotland Yard is not asking Interpol to issue red warrant for these guys, so that Pakistan government forced under international treaty locate, arrest, and handover the suspects to them? The tone and clarity of words in Sunday's MQM rally is enough to proof that UK and Pak government are at a loss on this case.Ok, you do not have these suspects. Let's start prosecution under various other charges we are listening for such a long time. Scotland Yard is doing nothing except repeating its commitment and reward money. The ball is now in UK and Pak governments court. For Pak it's a political issue which is not going in their desired direction, for UK it's a case in which they first suspected "big one" but now what they have at hand a clean chit for that "big one".
