Awareness workshop: ‘Allergic diseases affect population’

Allergies affect about 40% of children and 18% of the adult population.

KARACHI: Allergic diseases affect about 20% to 40% of children and around 18% of the adult population. According to the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) director Dr Adib Rizvi, allergy is the biggest problem in Pakistan affecting a huge section of the population. The seminar and workshop, ‘Allergies: Issues & Solutions’ was organised by the Pakistan Society for Immunology (PSI) in collaboration with SIUT. The seminar was to create awareness about diagnosis management of patients suffering from allergies in Pakistan. Dr Osman Yusuf said that 20 per cent of the country’s population was affected by allergic diseases and there would be significant increase if preventive measures were not put in place.
