KARACHI: Ariz Kamal played an impressive 93-run knock to propel Port Qasim Authority (PQA) to a thumping seven-wicket win over Afghanistan at the Arabian Sea Country Club.

Set a target of 284, PQA got off to a flyer courtesy Ariz, who blasted three sixes and nine boundaries in his innings, setting the tone for an easy chase.

With PQA easing to victory, Afghanistan head coach Kabir Khan, Rashid Latif and Aamir Sohail extended the target to 325 in 50 overs.

However, PQA went onto to make 325 for three in 49.3 overs courtesy unbeaten knocks from Fawad Alam and Khalid Latif. Alam scored 77 with two sixes and seven boundaries, while Latif smashed 59 with two maximums and nine strikes to the fence.

Shahpoor Zadran and captain Mohammad Nabi picked up a wicket each.

Earlier, Afghanistan made 284 in their allotted overs. Mohammad Mujtaba top-scored with 69 off 70, while Nabi clubbed three sixes and four boundaries in his 61-run cameo. Shahzaib Khan bagged two wickets while Sohaib Khan, Azam Hussain and Tabish Nawab picked up a lone scalp each.

Both sets of players were unhappy as the match was initially delayed for an hour due to an unprepared pitch.

Afghanistan coach Kabir said that the team’s main aim has been to gain useful practice.

“Our camp basically focuses on mental strengthening of players and they’ve learned a lot from today’s [Thursday] match,” he said after the match.
