A policeman was injured when unidentified militants opened fire at a police van in Hangu on Wednesday.


According to Saddar police SHO Abid Khan, a police team headed by him was patrolling the area to check on security arrangements for a polio drive when gunmen ambushed them at Barabaskhel Bridge around 11am.

Khan added the gunmen opened fire at the mobile, injuring constable Muhammad Amil. The official was rushed to District Headquarters Hospital where his condition was said to be critical.

Following the incident, police and security forces launched a search operation in the area and arrested 15 suspects. A large cache of weapons were also recovered in the operation.

Jamrud

In another incident, unidentified gunmen opened fire at a polio team in Ghareza area of Jamrud, Khyber Agency. Fortunately, no human loss occurred. Political tehsildar Ali Sher said the administration deployed the khasadar force to the area as soon as they learnt of the attack.

Later, the political administration imposed a ban on motorcycle riding across the tehsil and residents were warned of strict action in case of non-compliance via loudspeakers.
