Grey traffic: FIA arrest three for operating illegal gateway exchange

The Federal Investigation Agency’s National Response Centre for Cyber Crime (NR3C) and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority on Friday raided a house in Defence and confiscated an illegal gateway exchange.


Three people were arrested for being involved in the illegal business.

The raiding team recovered the equipment used, including  49 CDMA gateways of one SIM each, 10 GSM gateways of four ports each, three Quintum CPU servers, three internet devices, three switches and 200 SIMs.

Salman Farooq, Azamul Haq and Kashif were arrested and sent to the FIA NR3C police station. The NR3C said they had received information about an illegal gateway exchange at a house in E Block, Defence Housing Authority.

They said, FIA Punjab Director Usman Anwar and FIA NR3C Additional Director Azhar Mehmood ordered the raid. The raiding team consisting of SI Majid Niazi, Assistant Director Asif Iqbal, Senior Investigator Rizwan Arshad, Assistant Sub Inspector Muhammad Sohail Shahzad , Constable Mansoor Hussain and FIA NR3C SHO Rai Nasrullah, and PTA Assistant Director Tariq Khan went to the house.

Kashif Ali Bukhari, a resident of Tufail Street, Azamul Haq, a resident of Township, and Salman Farooq, a resident of Officers’ Colony, Bahawalnagar, were present at the house. At the upper storey of the house the team found the illegal gateway exchange.

The setup was dismantled and confiscated.

Early investigation revealed that the SIMs had been supplied by Fasahat alias Fassi, who had been receiving payments for it in a bank account titled Tricon Networks.
