KARACHI: Pakistan continued dominating Group Three in the Street Child World Cup (SCWC) after defeating Kenya 2-0 in their second match of the tournament in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Aurangzeb scored the opening goal of the match in the first minute and sealed the win by the end of the first half in the seven-a-side tournament.

With the result, Pakistan are ahead of the US in the group with the best goal-average. Having crushed defending champions India earlier, the team has now scored 15 goals in two matches and collected six points on the table.

Meanwhile, the US also have six points but have scored 11 goals in the competition so far.

Pakistan will be facing Mauritius in their next match on Thursday and will also take on the US in their last group match.

The team will need to win both matches in order to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Azad Foundation official Ali Bilgrami, who is currently with the team in Brazil, said that the players have gained confidence with their second win in the tournament.

“In our match against Kenya, the opponents kept blocking and manhandling Abdul Raziq who scored eight goals for us in the previous match,” Bilgrami told The Express Tribune.

“But our players are very fast and Aurangzeb scored brilliant goals for the team. Our players are more confident now, and I hope this tournament and experience in Brazil will remain with them for the rest of their lives.”

The SCWC is featuring 20 teams. The event aims to provide an identity to street children all over the world.
