KARACHI: After three successive defeats, Pakistan finally earned victory at the Women’s World Twenty20, surpassing Ireland by 14 runs in their last Group A match in Sylhet on Monday.

Already out of contention after losing against South Africa, New Zealand and Australia, Pakistan defended their total of 119 for six to end the campaign on a winning note.

The victory was almost all about Bismah Maroof and Asmavia Iqbal.

Left-handed Maroof excelled after Pakistan lost three quick wickets for just 22 runs. She scored a fluent 48 off 45 including three boundaries to assist in compiling a challenging target.

Qanita Jalil (20), captain Sana Mir (16) and Nain Abidi (11) were the other batters to reach double figures.

Isobel Joyce and Louise McCarthy bagged two wickets each for Ireland.

Meanwhile, Asmavia led the bowling attack and removed opener Mary Waldron on nought. She took two more wickets and claimed figures of three for 18 from 3.3 overs.

Ireland saw captain Joyce resisting well until Nida Dar removed her on 32. The other Irish batters failed to persist as the side was bowled out for 105.

Sana also contributed in the bowling, picking up two wickets down the order.
