CHITRAL:

Five people were killed and three others were injured when a jeep plunged into a deep ditch in Torkawo tehsil of Chitral on Saturday.

According to an official of Torkawo police, the jeep was en route from Rayen village to Merp. It fell into the ditch as it reached Fowara Chowk, 150 kilometers away from Chitral, while negotiating a sharp turn.

He added that five people, Mumtaz Ahmad, Noroz Khan, Din Muhammad, Ali Shah and driver Jano Yar Khan, were killed on the spot whereas Rehmat Wazir Khan, Sobidar Diyar Khan and Ahmad Zarin Khan were injured.

The official speculated the driver lost control of the vehicle due to the state of the road. He said residents of nearby areas came to rescue the victims after two hours of the accident when a passerby noticed the wreck.

The wounded were then rushed to Shagram Hospital. The vehicle was also found to be badly damaged.  Police have registered an FIR of the incident.
