KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar granted protective bail before arrest to two suspects in the Shikarpur jirga case on Monday.

The two suspects, along with Pakistan Muslim League-Functional MNA Ghous Bux Mahar, are facing charges of holding an illegal jirga that declared two young girls liable to be killed.

Justice Baqar directed both the applicants - Syed Nadir Shah and Mehboob Ali Mahar - to furnish a surety worth Rs100,000 each to avail the protective bail that would expire by March 31.

In view of the Supreme Court’s directions to arrest the organisers of the jirga, the police have booked the applicants in FIR No. 24/2014 under sections 419, 384, 143, 117 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code despite the fact that they did not even attend the jirga. They pleaded the court grant them pre-arrest bail to enable them surrender before the trial court, as the police are out to arrest them.
