Karachi killings: Senior doctor shot dead near clinic

SP Hyder says 2 unidentified men opened fire on Dr Nyani when he reached his clinic near Madni Masjid at Aisha Manzil.

KARACHI: A senior doctor was shot dead in an apparent act of targeted killing near Aisha Manzil in the remit of Azizabad police station on Monday.

SP Muqadas Hyder said two unidentified men opened fire on Dr Shaukat Nyani, 56, when he reached his clinic near Madni Masjid at Aisha Manzil.

“Dr Nyani belonged to the Ismaili community and it is premature to say anything about the motive behind the incident,” SP Hyder said.

The medico-legal officer of the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital said the victim was brought dead with multiple bullet wounds.

Separately, unidentified men opened indiscriminate firing in Singo Lane of Lyari killing one person and injuring two.

The body of the deceased was shifted to Civil Hospital.
